Honor releases the View20 that has a punch-hole display and a 48MP rear camera

The battle of the notch might have finally come to an end. In 2018, we saw smartphones that came with the unsightly blemish on the display.

Companies tried to convince us that it gives you more screen real estate. That was until Vivo and Oppo released their notchless NEX and Find X at premium prices. Then came the Huawei nova 4, a mid-range phone that also ditched the notch in favor of a punch-hole display.

Now, there is another phone manufacturer that has managed to create a phone which eliminates the need of a notch while keeping the cost down.

Queue the Honor View20, the latest flagship device from Huawei’s sub-brand.

The notch is no more.

The View20 is an excellent example of how a phone can have a powerful selfie camera without incorporating a notch.

This effectively gives the phone a 91.8% screen-to-body ratio. Although it still has a chin at the bottom of the display, it’s good to know companies are slowly but surely achieving the 100% screen-to-body ratio milestone.

It’s really fast.

Keeping up with the traditions of the Honor View10 which rivaled the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, the View20 comes with a Kirin 980 which utilizes dual-Neural Processing Units (NPU) for all its AI processing, 6.4-inch FHD+ LCD display, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

On paper, it does come with the same specs as the Mate 20 Pro except for the display. A Quad HD+ on the Mate 20 Pro against the FHD+ display on the View20.

Powering the device is a 4,000mAh battery which supports quick charging.

Photography with massive amounts of AI processing.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the View20 is its impressive 48MP rear sensor which uses Sony’s IMX586 sensor. Honor is dubbing the rear camera as an ‘AI Ultra Clarity’ camera that gives you excellent clarity for your images when you’re zoomed in.

It also supports Artificial Image Stabilization (AIS) Super Night Shot that allows you to confidently take photos even in dark areas, similar to Google’s Night Sight

Camera features don’t stop there, it also has 960fps video recording and a 3D Time of Flight sensor which uses infrared to isolate the subject from the background.

The front camera is equipped with a 25MP camera sensor and the selfie camera is neatly placed on the top left of the screen instead of having it right smack in the middle.

Gaming features to give you an extra edge.

We know that Honor believes strongly in mobile gaming and that’s no different when it comes to the View20.

The company has equipped the phone with a liquid cooling system which they claim can bring down the temperature of the processor by 10 degrees Celsius.

The phone will give you an edge in gaming especially PUBG Mobile thanks to Honor’s GPU Turbo 2.0 technology.

Also, the triple WiFi-antenna built into the phone helps keep the signal strong even when your hand covers the receiver.
